Readonlymemory

The cinema was a decisive element in the constitution of the imagination in the 20th Century. We have probably all dreamed our life as if it were a film, the film of our very consciousness. This cinematography of the imagination has its roots in a certain fitting together of time and space. The latter is recomposed by the temporal flow that defines the movement of the camera and the running of the projector. The spectator sees fragments of space at a given time, the camera moves and reveals other fragments that are arranged next to each other by the spectator. Thus, the spectator imagines a space larger than the one shown during the projection of the film. Readonlymemories is an examination of the known and the unknown in films. We have all seen the apartment building in Rear Window, Dorothy's bedroom in Blue Velvet and the twin brothers from Dead Ringers, yet we have never actually seen them on the screen.

Le cinéma est un élément décisif de la constitution de l'imaginaire au XXème siècle. Chacun d'entre nous a sans doute rêvé sa vie tel un film, le film même de sa conscience. Cet imaginaire cinématographique trouve sa source dans un certain agencement entre le temps et l'espace. Ce dernier est recomposé par le flux temporel qui articule le mouvementde la caméra et le défilement du projecteur. Le spectateur voit des fragments d'espace à un moment donné, la caméra se déplace et dévoile d'autres fragments qui seront agencés les uns à côté des autres par le spectateur. Ainsi il imaginera un espace plus grand que l'espace montré dans le présent de la projection filmique. Readonlymemories est une mise à plat de films connus ou inconnus. Nous avons tous vu l'immeuble de Fenêtre sur cour, la chambre de Dorothy dans Blue Velvet, les frères jumeaux de Faux-semblants, et pourtant jamais nous ne les avons vus à l'écran.
