Lili Almog

Lili Almog concentrats her artistic efforts on creating representations of the feminine body and psyche.

Lili Almog's series of photographs of Carmelite nuns, 'Perfect Intimacy' is exceptional many ways. Almog stayed with three sets of nuns in their monasteries in different cities across the world, Bethlehem, Haifa and Maryland. The project has been an intense experience for Almog, who is an Israeli living in New York for twenty years, and has taken two years to complete. It is part of an existing scheme of work that interrogates the spaces and psychologies of women, and in this series Almog became part of the community, re visiting the monasteries several times, joining in with the daily routine.
'Perfect Intimacy' was published as a monograph in 2006 by powerHouse books.

The new body of Lili Almog will be Feminine identity in rural China.
This is a photographic portrait of minority women in the countryside, small cities and villages in China made over the last year and a half. Lili Almog has undertaken to examine these women at this time when the demands of rapid growth and a sweeping desire for modernity encroaches upon the traditions and values that have sustained their cultures as intact microcosms in the larger picture of China for centuries. She has focused on women of minorities with an emphasis on the extraordinary situation of Muslim women in China and a unique Chinese ethnic minority living within the boundaries of western China the Mosuo women which is one of the last matriarchal societies existing in our world.
